High Fashion, High Standards: Edun

Even though I spend every other week out in the woods with no showers, no laundry, and only hiking boots and beat up Chacos for shoes, I must admit I am a bit of a fashionista. I love to watch the runway shows on style.com, flip through Vogue at the grocery store, and window shop on Rodeo Drive whenever I go visit family in California.
My love of fashion has inspired me to highlight clothing and accessory brands that are creating fashionable clothes using sustainable materials and making a commitment to socially responsible production.
The first company I am going to talk about is Edun. This brand was started by Bono's (yes, the guy from U2) wife, Ali Hewson. Here's a description of the brand from the online shopping site Net-a-Porter:

Since its launch in 2005, eco fashion label EDUN has been creating pieces inspired by the beauty of Africa. Founded by Ali Hewson with the help of husband Bono, the collections show flair and individuality whilst coming with a clean conscience - their revolutionary business model focuses on fair trade for their sub-Saharan producers. Look out for printed silk tanks and cool urban coverups.

Checking out Edun's website, they have a section of the page devoted to explaining their mission of creating trade with Africa, as well as having their factories evaluated by third parties to meet ethical standards.
Edun is available at most major clothing retailers. It's expensive at full price, but there are lots of good pieces available on discount fashion websites, my favorite of which is The Outnet. Here are a few photos of pieces that are available on sale at theoutnet.com from Edun:
