As the Occupy Wall Street protests capture national news, I have been thinking a lot about the financial state of this country, specifically the inequality and questionable ethics that these protesters are attempting to shed light on. This has inspired me to think about what the average American can do about bringing change in this country.
I for one do not believe that our capitalistic system is the problem or inherently creates inequality. Quite the opposite actually. In a recent conversation with a friend, he said, "The nice thing about a capitalistic society is that we get to vote with every dollar we spend." I believe that conscious consumerism and utilizing the capitalist system to create a demand for socially and environmentally responsible products is a viable method of bringing about change in American culture. So I have created this blog to highlight companies that are doing just that, profiling companies that support environmentalism, manufacture in the United States, and have progressive benefit packages for employees all while remaining financially viable. The intent of this blog is to help average Americans navigate our society and "vote" for a cause and the changes they would like to see in our culture.
